Bone

Take three Sunday-morning cartoon characters, a Disney princess, and an old pot-bellied dragon with fluffy ears.  Then send them on an epic fantasy adventure where bad, bad things happen to them.  Does this sound like:
A)  A recipe for failure
or
B) A recipe for success

Panda Masamune here, bringing you my second review.  Before reading this graphic novel, I probably would have answered A).  But Jeff Smith has made me a believer.  Come see why you should care about this American Graphic Novel.

“The Wolf is Coming!” manga volumes 1 – 4

28 11 2009

This is Laserwolf here once again to talk to you about manga.  I don’t speak German, but thanks to this manga, I learned the word verboten, and a few other random words.  If you read it in Japanese, you will find the furigana is often giving you German readings rather than English ones, so knowledge of German would probably be a plus and an incentive for you to get into this one.  But besides German, there are plenty of things to enjoy about this manga – such as the awesome ghoul-fighting action!

“Full Moon o Sagashite” manga

17 11 2009

This is Laserwolf, here to share with you one manga I will probably never read again.  Not every manga you read is going to be good… and some are horrible.  This is one of the ones that makes me shudder.

I don't know why she's holding an egg here.

“Alice in the Country of Hearts” volumes 1 to 3

16 11 2009

Hello!  This is Laserwolf.  Don’t be fooled by the S following Laserwolf.  There are no other Laserwolfs.  Just like the Highlander, there can be only one.

I love reading and the occasional video game, but lately I have been reading more manga than anything else.  Manga is a wonderful study tool; I live in Japan and I want to improve my Japanese but I have no patience for textbooks.  My favorite manga genre is monster/vampire/werewolf/etc.  Because I often get too engrossed in manga to stop and look up words I don’t know, there is a slight chance I have misunderstood things in Japanese.  However, I will not post anything I feel I have not fully understood.  I have a penchant for reading manga that is not available in English yet.  For this, I am sorry for you non-Japanese readers, but please try to look at it this way – I am introducing you to new things, which you can look forward to reading in English in the future.

“Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood” Season 1

4 11 2009
Edward and Alphonse Elric are alchemists…
Edward and Alphonse Elric are geniuses…
Edward and Alphonse Elric are brothers…
Oh, and Edward and Alphonse Elric are sinners.

Good Evening!  This is Panda Masamune here, bringing you the first of many reviews on this site.  As it says in the “about” page and the byline, we at Segue want to “build bridges between nerd-dom and real life.”  (That’s a fancy way of saying that all three of the writers on this blog like our hobbies, but we think that our hobbies shouldn’t just be about entertaining ourselves; they should leave us as better people in the end.)  So it’s only fitting that our first post be about Fullmetal Alchemist–the series that gave me this idea in the first place.
